So, I recently received an iPod Touch 16 GB. One of the best mp3 players I’ve ever found, but the only problem is it doesn’t support 3rd party apps. And won’t until later this month when the SDK is released, which is a problem. Apple is trying to lock down the ipod, so you cannot use the apps you want on it. Here is a little tutorial I made to walk you through, step by step, with jail breaking your iPod.First of all, you’ll need an iPod touch, and a computer with a USB 2.0 port, and iTunes. Then you’ll need to download the 1.1.1 firmware and the 1.1.2 firmware. Now you’ll need to download iPhuc. This is a handy little program that’ll allow you to “hack” the iPod so it will be downgradable. This is the easy part. Remember the 1.1.1 firmware? Well, apple tried to be smart and set up the .ispw file format as a renamed zip. Use WinRar or 7-zip to open it. Find the file called WTF.s5l8900xall.RELEASE.dfu. Copy this file to the same folder as iPhuc, and start the exe file. Type “enterrecovery” without the “” and then exit iPhuc. Your iPod should now be in recovery mode. Now enter the program and type “filecopytophone WTF.s5l8900xall.RELEASE.dfu”. Press enter. Then type “cmd go”. The iPod should now reboot.Open iTunes. It should give you an error about your iPod being in recovery mode. Press OK, then SHIFT-click the Restore button in iTunes. Navigate to the 1.1.1 firmware file, and press open. Wait for iTunes to restore the iPod.You should now have a 1.1.1 iPod, as it came out of the box.Now for the hard part. Turn autolock to never, connect to your wireless network, and open safari. Navigate to “jailbreakme.com”. Go to the bottom of the page, and press “Install AppSnapp.” Safari should crash. If you see something saying “Downloading xx%” on the homescreen, it worked. If not, try again until it does.If all went well, you should now have a new icon on your iPod called “Installer”.BEFORE YOU CONTINUE, PLEASE GO INTO ITUNES AND CHECK MANUALLY MANAGE MY MUSIC AND UNCHECK OPEN ITUNES WHEN IPOD IS CONNECTED. APPLY AND SYNC. IF YOU DO NOT DO THIS, YOUR IPOD WILL NOT JAILBREAK CORRECTLY.Click on installer. Press install near the bottom, and then go to sources in the install window, install community sources.Go to System in the installer, and install BSD subsystem. This will take a while to DL, so be patient. Now, after that is done, RESTART YOUR IPOD. This is CRITICAL that you do this. After it is done restarting, go into installer, go to Tweaks (1.1.1) and install Oktoprep. You can now safetly exit installer.Reconnect to your computer. Go into iTunes, and shift click the “Update” button. Navigate to your 1.1.2 firmware, and press open. Wait until the ipod is updated. Go and download Jailbreak.zip from Conceited Software. WHen the iPod is done updating, you’ll notice that the installer.app is gone. So, we COMPLETELY EXIT ITUNES and we start the windows.bat file after extracting the archive. Leave all settings the way they are, and press “Jailbreak”. Let it run its course, and when it’s done, we’ll be up to the 1.1.2 jailbreak. One more to go.So, installer.app is back. Go back and reinstall BSD Subsystems. Restart the iPod again. Then open up the installer, and go to System and install the Official 1.1.3 Upgrader. Make sure you have autolock turned off, and are connected to a wifi network. Then press “Upgrade” on the home screen, and let it run its course. With fast internet, about 20-35 minutes. With slow, alot longer. Now that that is over, go and install Summerboard. Also add http://ihacks.us/index.xml to your sources, they have a list of over 100 sources to choose from!Thank you, and that is all for now.Zifnab06P.S. Post questions if you have any, i’ll try to answer!!
